Louis

Louis

What can be said of the vampire whose place in my life is ever changing? He was my brother, my companion, my confidante, and then, the destroyer of what was once so precious to me.

Times change, but some things stay the same. I look at him and I feel an immediate comfort, a warmth that only his countenance can give, and then comes the sorrow.

I can be inclined towards bitterness as easily as the next man. Some wrongs can be forgiven, but not forgotten. And for others, forgiveness seems as impossibly wrong as the transgression itself.

There are days when I forgive Louis, and others when my compassion is obscured by smoke and flames.

One day Louis and I will meet once more, to talk of all that has passed between us, and perhaps then we will truly know ourselves again. In both aversion and affection, I look forward to that day.
